Production History

The piece was first written and workshopped at Carnegie Mellon's Theatre Lab (2019). The choreopoem has been performed at Carnegie Mellon's Martin Luther King Jr. Day Writing Awards, where it was awarded a Special Drama Award (2020); and at The Artist Co-Op as part of Poetic Theater Productions's Poetic Open Sessions (2019).

Synopsis

Two lovers – each with contrary opinions about Puerto Rican national identity – uncover how to prepare “authentic” coffee.


Production History
The play was presented at
Nuyorican Poets Cafe (2018), WRCT 88.3FM Barrio Latino (2017), and Carnegie Mellon School of Drama Playground Festival (2016). The piece was first created through Carnegie Mellon's SURF Fellowship (2016). Up next, "Cola'o" will be presented at Theatre Now's Sound Bites 7.0 festival of ten-minute musicals.

The play is a finalist for City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting (2020) and was published by Bridge: Bluffton University Literary Journal (2019).

Synopsis

A young Puerto Rican kid dreams of hitting it out of the park in the majors. “Momen” to family and friends, and “21” on the field, we all know him as Roberto Clemente Walker. Today, we remember him as “The Great One.”

Production History 

"21" was first written and workshopped through Carnegie Mellon School of Drama's New Work Development course (2020) and New Work Series festival (2021).

In the face of an imminent deluge, a crew wavers between staying together, parting ways, or sacrificing themselves. When storms hit, what is to find our homes broken, distanced, and displaced?
